Strickland and Brown Strong Despite Attacks October 24, 2006

Nick Benson: Election 2006 , add a comment

A new poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. shows more good news for Ted Strickland and Sherrod Brown.  Both candidates lead their republican opponents two weeks before the election.

These polls are even more significant considering how the Blackwell campaign has gone into the gutter in attacking Ted Strickland and DeWine has bolstered his attacks on Sherrod Brown.  This poll shows that voters are rejecting the negative politics-as-usual schemes of Taft/Blackwell/DeWine.

In the race for Governor:

Ted Strickland: 54%

Ken Blackwell: 34%

In the race for US Senate:

Sherrod Brown: 48%

Mike DeWine: 40%

Blackwell is in even more trouble considering he has little room to grow his numbers.  The favorable-unfavorable ratings for Strickland are 48% - 17% (astonishing considering the recent attacks) and for Blackwell are 29% - 40%.  When only 29% of voters view a candidate favorable, there is trouble.  It is also awful to have an unfavorable rating as high as 40%.  Blackwell has virtually no chance of getting the votes of 40% of Ohioans right out of the gate.

Only 24% of Ohioans approve of Congress…so this good news for Strickland/Brown could trickle down to our congressional candidates.

Quinnipiac University Poll Shows Strickland “Blowout” October 18, 2006

This just-released poll from Quinnipiac University shows Strickland with a commnading lead:

Ted Strickland: 59%

Ken Blackwell: 32%

Strickland pulls 22% of Republicans, 90% of Democrats, 63% of Independents, 56% of men, 62% of women, and 90% of all Strickland supporters say that their “mind is made up” and they will not change their vote.

Strickland, Brown with Commanding Lead in CBS/NYT Poll

Nick Benson: Election 2006 , add a comment

According to a new poll released by CBS News and the New York Times, Ted Strickland has a commanding lead over Ken Blackwell and Sherrod Brown is pulling away from Mike Dewine.

In the race for Governor:

Ted Strickland: 53%

Ken Blackwell: 29%

In the race for United States Senate:

Sherrod Brown: 48%

Mike Dewine: 34%

The numbers for Brown show a similar trend as ones just released in the latest Ohio Poll by the University of Cincinnati that show Brown leading 52-45%.

Strickland Endorsed by Columbus Dispatch, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and Toledo Blade October 9, 2006

Nick Benson: Around Ohio, Election 2006 , add a comment

Ted Strickland was endorsed by three major Ohio newspapers.  Here are clips from each with a link to the story:

The Columbus Dispatch:

More than anything, the next governor of Ohio must be someone who can bridge political gulfs and enlist the help of all Ohioans to make the state a national leader again. For this reason, The Dispatch urges voters to elect Democrat Ted Strickland on Nov. 7.

Cleveland Plain Dealer:

Ted Strickland has the temperament, the understanding and the supporting cast to move Ohio toward wise goals

Toledo Blade:

Without question, the Republicans have worn out whatever welcome they had, and Ohioans, as the polls continue to show, are fed up. Ohio deserves better, and we believe, with great respect for the wisdom of the electorate, that our state is ready to make a change, and that it has a worthy governor-in-waiting in Ted Strickland.

More good news as we close in on Election Day!
